Βράβευση του Γιοματάρη Ιωάννη με το «2023 ICFA Instrumentation Award»

Με μεγάλη μου χαρά και αμέριστο θαυμασμό προς το πρόσωπό του, πληροφορήθηκα ότι ο συντοπίτης μας κ. Ιωάννης Γιοματάρης, πρόκειται να βραβευθεί για την συνεισφορά και τα επιτεύγματά του στον τομέα της σωματιδιακής φυσικής, καθώς θα του απονεμηθεί το «2023 ICFA Instrumentation Award» στο Cape Town της Νότιας Αφρικής τον Σεπτέμβριο, στην διεπιστημονική διάσκεψη TIPP που τιμά παγκοσμίως επιστήμονες και μηχανικούς από όλο τον κόσμο.

Dear Fabio and Ioannis,

It is a privilege to convey to you in confidence the news that you have been unanimously chosen as the recipients of the 2023 ICFA Instrumentation Award. This outcome is provisional pending ratification by ICFA but we wished to let you know as soon as possible. The awards will be announced and presented at TIPP 2023 September 4-8 in Cape Town, https://tipp2023.org where there will also be opportunities for each of you to give a talk. We hope you will be able to travel to Cape Town, if that is not the case arrangements will be made for remote participation.

Ο Γιάννης Γιοματάρης, πειραματικός φυσικός υψηλών ενεργειών, μέλος της ΕΕΣΦΥΕ, έχει αποσπάσει πολλά ακόμα βραβεία, μεταξύ άλλων και από τη Γαλλική Ακαδημία Επιστημών το 2002 με το Μεγάλο Βραβείο Jaffe.

Το σκεπτικό της Ακαδημίας ανέφερε:

«Ο Γιάννης Γιοματάρης αποτελεί μια ξεχωριστή προσωπικότητα ανάμεσα στους πειραματικούς της φυσικής υψηλών ενεργειών. Σε συνεργασία με μια ομάδα της επιτροπής ατομικής ενέργειας στο Saclay, σχεδίασε και λειτούργησε ένα ανιχνευτή ειδικό για τα πειράματα στους μελλοντικούς επιταχυντές, ο οποίος ταυτόχρονα δίνει πολλές υποσχέσεις για εφαρμογές στους τομείς της βιολογίας και της ιατρικής όπου απαιτείται η μέτρηση κατανομών ιονιζουσών ακτινοβολιών. Ο Γιάννης Γιοματάρης επινόησε πρωτότυπους ανιχνευτές για χρήση στους μεγάλης έντασης (φωτεινότητας) μελλοντικούς ανιχνευτές [σ.σ. εννοεί τον MicroMegas ο οποίος πλέον χρησιμοποιείται στο πείραμα ATLAS του CERN], για παράδειγμα στον «Hadron Blind Detector» που σχεδιάζεται στις ΗΠΑ [σ.σ. πλέον υλοποιείται και στις ΗΠΑ και στην Ιαπωνία]. Οι εργασίες του για τους ανιχνευτές τον οδήγησαν να προτείνει πρωτότυπα πειράματα στη φυσική νετρίνων ή άλλων εξωτικών σωματιδίων όπως τα άξιον»

Γιάννη Γιοματάρη, από την βράβευσή του για την συνεισφορά και τα επιτεύγματά του στον τομέα της σωματιδιακής φυσικής, καθώς του απονεμήθηκε σήμερα το «2023 ICFA Instrumentation Award» στο Cape Town της Νότιας Αφρικής, στη διεπιστημονική διάσκεψη TIPP που τιμά παγκοσμίως επιστήμονες και μηχανικούς από όλο τον κόσμο.

Ioannis Giomataris (CEA Saclay) and Fabio Sauli (CERN)

The ICFA Instrumentation Award recognizes achievements in instrumentation by an individual, or a group of individuals, that has made an advance in the field of particle physics. This award recognizes either a technology development (examples from the past include the Multi-Wire Proportional Chamber or the Bubble chamber) or a multi-faceted contribution including a technology development and also one or more of the following: community organization, training, outreach or technology transfer.
